What are the best type of brushes you really need to do your own makeup? To know what brushes we need, we have to focus on these five main steps of the makeup process: Foundation, Eyebrows, Concealer, Contour, and Highlight/Blush
Brushes are important when building your makeup bag. You want to ensure that you have the following brushes each step of the makeup process.
- FOUNDATION
Foundation brush – for foundation application. You want to make sure this brush is separate from other steps for a smooth blending experience.
Beauty sponge – foundation/concealer application. This is optional but if you’re still struggling with blotchy foundation, make sure you have one of these!

2. EYEBROWS
- Double sided eyebrow brush – brow application. Your eyebrow tool can vary on which product you decide to use but you can never go wrong with a double-sided brow tool. The brush ends helps to remove product if you end up applying too much brow prodcut.

3. CONCEALER
Flat concealer brush – concealer/brow application. This tool is perfect for ensuring a straight line and a natural arch is concealed every time.
Concealer brush – concealer/brow application. This is helping for blending hard to reach, small areas.

4. CONTOUR
Contour brush – contour application. This is used to help add warmth to your look. A slanted brush is preferred but any kind does the job.

5. HIGHLIGHT/BLUSH
Fan/Highlight brush – highlight/shine application.
Blush brush – for blush application
Knowing your brushes and how to use them helps your makeup routine tons! It also helps you save money and keeps your shopping list to a minimum. No more thinking you need to buy the most expensive brands for a beat face and more knowing to buy only what you need.
