Okay so you probably understand that you use setting powder after blending your concealer but you’re not quite clear on the blending and application part…and it’s showing in your makeup looks so you probably searched “how to apply concealer” on the internet and found me! haiiiiiiiii! If you’re looking for more clarity on applying concealer here’s this guide!

If you’re not doing your foundation first, you’ve probably heard, seen, or started your makeup with concealer. That’s my usual starting point if I’m going for a natural/neutral look. When applying concealer, you apply where the light hits your face, these areas are but are not limited to: under eyes, chin, forehead, under eyebrows, and even the cupid’s bow. While these are possible places to place your concealer, it is not required. I implore you to experiment with concealer in the following areas and feel free to apply little or more to your discretion and liking. As long as you blend properly.

As you apply concealer under eye areas, be mindful your face shape and apply and blend according to your face shape. Avoid following the shapes you see others drawing on their face and define the shapes that naturally come about with your face.

As a makeup artist and educator, I understand the importance of using techniques to improve a process and that’s what I do in makeup with brushes. Brushes are overlooked yet the most important part of doing your makeup. Here are a few ways your brushes could be affecting your blend:
- Not using a properly sized brush.
- Use smaller brushes to blend in smaller areas such as the eyes. It will help for a seamless under eye blend rather than using a foundation, or powder brush.
- Use a damp sponge to improve blend.
- Yes, damp beauty sponge does help with blend. I always make sure to cover my beauty sponge in a towel. Usually after blending with a brush I like to go over my blend with a sponge to make the blend more smooth and seamless.
- Clean your brushes often.
- If you’re the only one using your makeup kit at least every 3-5 uses or whenever your brushes start to clump together.
- Feeling the need to apply more because of online videos.
- Apply what you need and what you feel look best on you. The only way to do so is through practicing.
Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did writing it. Let me know if you have any questions. See you on the next post.
